An unspecified number of people are reported to have died in a crossfire between the police at Ashaiman and irate commercial drivers, with several others sustaining gun shot wounds.
The drivers were protesting alleged harassment by the police and had besieged the police station to demand the release of arrested colleagues.
15 of the drivers were said to have been arrested on Monday for parking at prohibited places, but the drivers claim it is only a running excuse by the police to extort sums of between GHc 200 or GHc 300 from them or be threatened with court prosecutions.
An eye witness, Ohene Djan told Joy News the Police are currently holed-up at their station which is close to the main road linking Tema.
He said the situation is scary and the police would need police reinforcement before they are overrun by the angry mob that has gathered and surrounded the police station.
