Mr. John Dramani Mahama, running mate to Professor John Evans Attah Mills flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at the weekend assured Ghanaians that a new NDC government would correct its past mistakes by ensuring that Ghanaians received what was due them in terms of development.
Addressing the Yagbonwura, Paramount Chief of the Gonja Traditional Area, Yagbonwura Bawah Doshie, his elders and people as well as party faithful in Damongo in the West Gonja District during the third day of his nine-day tour of parts of the northern region, Mr. Mahama said blending the experience in opposition and in governance would put the party in a better position to listen to the people and address their problems.
"He who is on top of a horse does not feel the heat of the ground but when he jumps down to feel it he would not make a mistake to be brought down the second time", he said adding, "experience is the best teacher."
Mr. Mahama said the NDC government would tar the road from Fufulso Junction to Sawla to facilitate movement of people and apologised to the Chief and the people that the party erred by not tarring the road during its tenure of office.
He said the NDC would also consider creating a region out of the Northern Region, which was very vast and difficult to administer and appealed to the Chief and the people to help bring the NDC back to power by voting massively to defeat the NPP.
Mr. Mahama used the occasion to repeat his call on NDC members to fully adopt the party's campaign of "Peace and Love" to win more members since insults and lies would not bring votes.
"Let us adopt Professor Mills' humble nature and conduct our campaign peacefully so that we will win the people's support to push us easily to the Castle come December 2008," he said.
Alhaji Huudu Yahaya, vice National Chairman of the party said even though the victory signs of the NDC were clear, members should not be complacent with the atmosphere but should work assiduously to ensure that there was no run-off.
