The Committee set up by the Electoral Commission to investigate the discrepancies in voter register in the Ashanti Region on Friday submitted its report. An official statement signed by Mr. C. Owusu-Parry, Acting Director, Public Affairs of the EC said the report was presented to the Chairman of the Commission. It said the Commission will study the report and issue a statement on it as soon as practicable. Mr. David A. Kangah, Finance and Administration of the Commission chaired the Committee. The flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Prof. John Atta Mills early this year raised alarm the bloating of the voters register in 13 constituencies in the Ashanti Region. He warned if the matter was not properly investigated, he would find it difficult to accept the results of the December elections. That generated a lot of controversy with the EC doubting the authenticity of the source of the CD-ROM from which the NDC discovered the astronomical increases in voter population in the 13 constituencies. The NDC maintained that it sourced the CD from the EC. The commission admitted giving a CD-ROM to the party but denied the contents. In order to resolve the issues to restore confidence in the EC, a committee was set up involving all the major political parties to look into the discrepancies. Story by Malik Abass Daabu
