There has been renewed violence at Bunkrugu Yunyoo in the Mamprusi District of the Northern Region as security men deployed to the area are said to have fled the area.
A distress call placed by some inhabitants to Adom Dwaso Nsem on Tuesday said the violence erupted last Monday night with sporadic gunshots head in the town.
A number houses, the reports say were also burnt but no death has been reported.
The immediate cause of the renewed violence is not yet known but the violence is said to have resulted in some inhabitants of the area sustaining wounds and injuries from gunshots.
The Member of Parliament for the area Mr. Joseph Labyck who called into the programme confirmed the report and expressed dissatisfaction with the way the security agencies had handled the crisis.
The Northern Regional commander of Police, DCOP Ephraim Okor Brakatu did not confirm or deny the story, but said the security agencies were yet to ascertain the remote and immediate causes of the disturbances.
The Bimobas and Konkombas in the Bunkpurugu-Yunyoo District are said to have a long-standing land dispute that has occasionally resulted in violence.
A similar conflict erupted between the two ethnic groups in September last year and resulted in the death of about six people and the destruction of houses.
Similar clashes between the two groups were recorded in 1985, 1986 and 1989 during which a number of casualties were recorded and many people were displaced.
