VRA, ECG deny load shedding

The Volta River Authority (VRA) and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) have both denied public statements that a load-shedding programme is currently being run by them. “The VRA and the ECG wish to state that they are not implementing any load-shedding programme and to reassure the general public that there is adequate power generation to meet full customer demand on the system,” a press statement signed jointly by the acting Director of Corporate Services of the VRA, Ms Abla Fiajoe, and the Public Relations Manager of the ECG, Ms Gloria Dua-Sakyi, said. They attributed the unplanned interruptions to faults that occurred occasionally in the transmission and distribution systems. The statement said the recent heavy rains and storms had also contributed to the high frequency of outages in the system. “In all cases, technicians are on standby to attend to the faults as they occur and restore power within the shortest possible time,” the statement said. It reiterated the appeal to electricity consumers to report any outages experienced and activities that were likely to interfere with the smooth supply of electricity. Consumers were also asked to conserve energy. Source: Daily Graphic
