A 15-year-old girl on Tuesday stunned an Accra Circuit Court when she pleaded with the court to release a 22-year-old driver, Isaac Botwe who defiled and impregnated her.
The victim who is carrying a seven-month pregnancy told the court that
the driver who initially denied being responsible for the pregnancy had begun fulfilling his obligations.
She had earlier been to the court on two occasions to make her
plea known to the court but was asked to come to court as her boyfriend would be in court on Tuesday.
The victim arrived at the court very early and waited for the case to be called and when the case was called at 2:45 pm, the victim who was in tears pleaded with the court to release Botwe.
When the victim’s father was invited by the court, he said he had nothing to say adding that because the boy denied responsibility, he decided to initiate criminal action against him.
Discharging Botwe, the court told him that it was an offence for him to defile a girl below sixteen years.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Mr George Abavelim said the complainant was the victim’s father and she was a school drop-out who lived with her father at James Town, Accra.
Accused lived at Avenor, Caprice in Accra. In 2007, Botwe engaged the victim in a relationship during which he sexually assaulted her.
As the relationship developed further, the victim relocated to Botwe’s house.
Prosecution said in December 2007, Botwe travelled to Benin to work and his return he was informed that the victim was pregnant.
Botwe, prosecution said denied responsibility and ordered the victim to vacate his room. A report was made to the Police and Botwe was arrested.
