Deputy Minister of Education, Science and Sports, Osei Bonsu Amoah has said that Ghana is convinced the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games will be a success. Beijing will host the rest of the world during the 29th edition beginning August 8.
Amoah who said this during the opening of a 3-day Picture Exhibition organized by the Chinese Embassy in Accra on Wednesday said Ghana fully support the efforts of China in the build-up to the Olympic Games. "The Beijing Olympics will contribute a lot to the world and leave a unique legacy for both China and world sport as a whole."
The Deputy Minister also acknowledged the cooperation between Ghana and China over the past century and which continues to grow by the year. "We look forward to sharing experiences and learning from each other for mutual understanding between our two nations, particularly in sports and education." His Excellency Yu Wenzhe, Chinese Ambassador to Ghana said his government and people are fully engaged in the preparatory work for the quadrennial Games which will open in the next 85 days.
"China is determined to host a high-level Olympic Games to realize the theme slogan -"One World, One Dream"." Mr. Yu promised that Beijing and China will welcome athletes, guests and friends from all over the world with open arms, deep friendship and warm hospitality.
Benson Tongo Baba, President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) appealed to the Chinese government to assist in the building of an indoor sports complex for disciplines such as table tennis, handball and judo among others. The three-day exhibition is aimed at publicizing the preparatory work towards the Games and will provide an opportunity for Ghanaians to know more about China and her culture. The exhibition which ends on Friday, May 16 at the National Stadium is open freely to the public.
