Mike Oquaye wins primaries

Member of Parliament for Dome Kwabenya in Accra and defeated NPP presidential aspirant, Prof. Mike Oquaye, has been given another nod by party members in his constituency to represent them in Parliament. Prof. Oquaye polled 52 votes to beat his closest contender, Adjoa Safo, a legal practioner and daughter of Apostle Kwadwo Safo of Kristo Asafo fame, who registered 13 votes. One of the contestants, Kingsley Piasah, had no vote whilst another, Frimpong Manso, backed out of the race to support the incumbent. Speaking to Joy News after his win Prof. Oquaye said he would continue to ensure the needs of his constituents are met if he wins the parliamentary seat in December. “Basically, I see ourselves as united and we’re moving forward. The only competition we have is against the NDC but we’re winning,” he added. Prof. Oquaye who described the NPP as a “party of destiny” recorded 55.2 percent of votes cast in his constituency to secure the parliamentary seat of his constituency in the 2004 elections. He expressed hopes of a better performance this year, pledging an unflinching support for NPP flagbearer, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo. By Fiifi Koomson
