Ten people have been arrested by the Bimbilla police in the Nanumba district for alleged child trafficking.
The suspects, nine Nigerians and a Ghanaian named as Aziz Naaza, were arrested at the Bicherataga check point on the Tamale-Bimbilla road on Wednesday with two boys aged between eight and 10.
The District Chief Executive, Salifu Saeed, who confirmed this to the Times yesterday, said the culprits are currently in police custody.
He said that the children left their respective homes and never returned.
Mr Saeed said following a report to the police by their parents, a search mission was embarked upon and on Wednesday, police at Bicherataga barrier found the two children in a vehicle with the 10 men.
Enquiries by the police established that the parents of the children were not on the vehicle.
The ten men were therefore detained and later conveyed to the Bimbilla police station where angry residents were restrained by the police from lynching them.
Mr Saeed commended the security agencies in the district for their vigilance in foiling criminal activities and appealed to the public to cooperate with them to maintain law and order.
