NDC to ‘bribe’ media

The main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has initiated a process to court the media before the December elections. The process includes giving attractive packages to the media. Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday the Campaign Manager of the NDC, Mr. Alex Segbafia said the party intend to “initiate our new relationship with the media,”. He said the NDC will formally launch its campaign for the 2008 elections on Wednesday, May 7, 2008, adding, “on that day (journalists) who will be accredited to cover the launch at the National Theatre will be given special packages”. The occasion will also be used to officially outdoor Mr. John Dramani Mahama as the running mate of Professor John Evans Atta Mills, flag bearer of the party. According to Mr. Segbafia the ceremony will also be used to launch the campaign theme and song for the flag bearer. He said the day would begin with a float on the streets of Accra and later converge at the National Theatre for the launch. “At the National Theatre, we will be showing you the new and interesting image of the NDC in terms of our logo, our colours and our messages,” he said. Mr. Segbafia noted that the NDC was approaching election 2008 with a difference, saying there was a lot of verve and a total professional and scientific approach to the party’s 2008 campaign. “We have a comprehensive programme which we intend to adhere to diligently without allowing anyone to dictate an agenda for us,” he said. He explained that the NDC’s 2008 campaign would project a presidential team rather than a person and that its campaign strategy would be issues-based. Specific issues would therefore be addressed by specific team players based on their capacities. Mr. Segbafia assured the public that the NDC had a united front and was heading towards victory in the December elections, saying that they were ready to give Ghana a focused and caring leadership led by Prof. Mills. “We have no doubt in our minds that Ghanaians will give Prof. Mills the mandate in December,” he said.
