A total of 1,203 youth have been given jobs of various categories in the Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa District under the first phase of the National Youth Employment programme in the district.
Out of the figure, 227 are teaching assistants and 880 went to the agricultural sector, Emmanuel Adjei Doomson, the District Chief Executive has said.
He said 26 are sanitary labourers, 10 "Samansaman" and 60 are nursing assistants to be trained by the end of the month and that the implementation of the programme in the district has given hope to the unemployed youth
Mr Doomson urged people in the area to embrace the programme since it will help address the unemployment situation in the district.
Mr. Doomson appealed to chiefs and family heads to release land for the youth who have volunteered to undertake farming.
He said the assembly and the Department of Feeders, in their efforts to promote agriculture and also open up the food growing basket areas of the district, have awarded contracts for reshaping of some feeder roads in the district.
These include Brakw-Afofosu, Baak-Anhwiam, Anhwiam-Anyinabrim, Odoben-Brakwa, Odoben Town, Supunso-Wurakese-Fankyenko-Chirakaa Junction and Towoboase-Ohurubo-Ogonase-Nanbehi feeder roads.
Mr Doomson said the Breman Asikuma town roads are being rehabilitated at a total cost of 7.2 billion cedis and expressed the peoples' gratitude to the government.
