Mr Ransford Owusu Boakye, 43, an official of National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) was on Tuesday elected National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary candidate for New Juaben Constituency at the Party’s primaries held in Koforidua.
He was elected unopposed following the withdrawal of his opponent Mr Johnson Kwabla Tettepey, an educationist.
Mr Boakye, elated expressed appreciation to the delegates for the confidence reposed in him and called for concerted efforts from all and sundry to enable the party wrestle the seat from the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
He urged the youth who had attained the voting age of 18 years to register when the voters register was re-opened next month.
Mr Boakye said due to the hardship imposed on Ghanaians by the government, they were yearning for the NDC to return to power to save them.
Mr Tawiah Boateng, Eastern Regional Organizer of NDC, called on those who would supervise the voters’ registration exercise to be extra vigilant to ensure ghost names were eliminated.
He called for unity among the supporters to ensure a landslide victory in the December general elections for the NDC.
Mr Boateng denied allegations that the NDC would abolish the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP) when it assumed power.
He said on the contrary, the Party would resource the NYEP to ensure that its employees were placed on good salaries to contribute to the Social Security Fund (SSF) to guarantee their future.
Mr Anthony Gyampoh, Eastern Regional Secretary of NDC urged their supporters to be bold and resist any attempt by the NPP to intimidate them on the Election Day.
He urged them to be prepared to counter any negative propaganda NPP supporters would wage against the Party to misinform rural dwellers.
