Christopher Worlanyo, a 37-year-old farmer died after he was bitten by a ground squirrel on his farm at Anfoega-Bume in the Kpando district of the Volta Region.
Family sources told reporters that Worlanyo went to farm with his dog last week to hunt for ground squirrels.
They said at a spot, Worlanyo started digging for the squirrel when it escaped but was caught by the dog.
They said without hesitating to let the dog kill the game, Worlanyo started scrambling with the dog to collect the squirrel.
The sources said he held the tail of the squirrel and succeeded in dragging it from the dog’s month when unfortunately the squirrel, which was also struggling for survival bit the man’s hand but he succeeded in killing it for consumption.
They said when he reported the case to family members, well-wishers gave him money to visit the hospital but refused and used the money to purchase drinks.
They said a week later, when people saw that his health was deteriorating they rushed him to the Anfoega Catholic hospital where he was shortly pronounced dead.
He has since been buried.
