The Mfantseman West Constituency of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has sent a message of congratulation to President J. A. Kufuor on his appointment as the Chairman of the African Union (AU).
A message issued at Saltpond by Mr James Dennis Ehuren, Constituency Chairman, noted that the appointment was not an honour to the President alone but to the whole country especially "at this time when we are in a Jubilee mood".
"It is a recognition of good governance and rule of law, which are the cornerstone of Kufuor's administration", Mr Ehuren stated. He urged Ghanaians to rally behind the government to enable it to achieve greater things for the country.
In a similar message, the Chiefs of the Nkusukum Traditional Area hailed President Kufuor on his appointment.
Okesse Essandoh VIII, Omanhene of the area said Ghana deserved the chairmanship of the Union because the country's first President, Dr Kwame Nkrumah fought relentlessly for the formation of a united Africa. "The appointment could not have come at a better time than this year when we are celebrating the Golden Jubilee of our independence", he stated.
The Omanhene appealed to Ghanaians to support the President to make his tenure of office a success.
