A leading member of the Democratic Freedom Party (DFP), Ms Frances Essiam has threatened to sue a group calling itself Friends of Atta Mills.
She said the action has been necessitated by the group’s attempt to malign her by accusing her with murder.
According to her, the group’s leader Alhaji Belo claimed that she and the Life Patron of the DFP, Dr. Yao Obed Asamoah had attempted to assassinate him.
A charge she said is baseless and unfounded.
Alhaji Belo a few weeks ago led a group of people to a press conference organised by the DFP in Ho to announce their defection from the NDC to the DFP.
But in a dramatic fashion, Alhaji Belo stunned the DFP leaders and the media men present by reading a different speech that affirmed the group’s loyalty to the NDC.
After the drama, Alhaji Belo claimed arson attempt on his life and allegedly pointed accusing fingers at Dr. Asamoah and Ms. Essiam.
Speaking to Citi FM in Accra, Ms Essiam said she would be praying the court to compel Alhaji Belo to prove her complicity in the alleged attempted murder.
“He should bring proof or damages galore”, she emphasized.
She said Alhaji Belo and those propping him up had bitten more than they could chew.
“A woman of my stature to be put in the category of a murderer or an armed robber” is a serious matter that must be investigated by the police, she pointed out.
