Mr Agyepong Dwemo, officer in-charge of the Kibi Fire Station has urged workshops, industrial establishments and landlords to comply with the new fire law, Legislative Instrument (LI) 1724 to help protect their properties against fire.
He explained that, under the LI, every premises needed to get a fire certificate while hotels, workshops and industrial establishment needed to have smoke detectors, fire extinguishers and where necessary hydrants.
Mr Dwemo was speaking at an education programme organized by his office in collaboration with the East Akim District Assembly to educate landlords and owners of businesses in the District about the law at the New Tafo Market.
He urged big industrial concerns that are prone to fire like sawmilling companies, petrol filling stations and gas stations to apply for the training of their staff in fire fighting techniques in addition to acquiring fire fighting equipment.
Mr Dwemo warned that people who flouted the LI can be prosecuted.
