The newly created Sekyere Central District Assembly on Wednesday elected Mr. Ebenezer Afuakwa Sekyere, a retired educationist, as its presiding member (PM).
At a meeting at Nsuta, Mr. Sekyere who stood unopposed polled all the 29 votes of members present to emerge as the first PM.
The district assembly failed to elect a Presiding Member during its inauguration about three weeks ago when Mr. Sekyere and Nana Boadi Amponim, a teacher, failed to secure the required two-thirds majority.
Mr. Haruna Oppong-Boateng, District Chief Executive for Sekyere West, commended the members for showing maturity in the election of the PM and advised them to work as a team to promote the socio-economic development of the area.
Mr. Sekyere expressed gratitude to his colleagues and assured them that he would strive to live up to expectation to ensure the speedy development of the district.
