Mr Osei Frimpong, former Special Assistant to Mr Yaw Osafo Maafo, Member of Parliament (MP) for Akyem Oda, has donated 30 bicycles valued at GH¢2,500 to the New Abirem Constituency office of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), to facilitate the work of the party in the constituency.
Making the donation, Mr Frimpong expressed the hope that the items would assist in no small way for the party to retain the seat in the December 2008 general elections.
He said this year’s election was a critical one for all the political parties and therefore, the need for every party member to contribute his or her quota to support the party’s campaign in order to retain power.
Mr Osei who hails from Ntronang in the Birim North District said, going by the good performance of the NPP since it assumed power, there was no doubt that the electorate would renew its mandate in the forth-coming elections.
He said numerous infrastructural projects that were going on in the district, was evidence of the good works of the government and urged the people in the area to vote massively for Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo, the Presidential Candidate for the party, to be able to continue the good works of President John Agyekum Kufour.
Mr Osei observed that, before the NPP came to power, the district was one of the poorest districts in the country without even a single tarred road, but the situation now was different with the area enjoying its fair share of the national cake.
He mentioned some of the development as construction of roads, school buildings, clinics and the upgrading of New Abirem Health Centre to the status of a district hospital.
Receiving the bicycles on behalf of the constituency, Alhaji Bodinga, Eastern Regional Second Vice-Chairman of the NPP, commended Mr Osei for the gesture.
He assured that the party would surely retain power and continue to develop the country and urged the people to join the winning team of the NPP.
Alhaji Bodinga announced that, the regional secretariat would provide all the necessary logistics including finance to all the constituencies and the party foot soldiers to undertake a major campaign to win more votes for the party.
He appealed to the party officials to use the bicycles for the purpose of which they were donated and to take good care of them to ensure longer life span.
