Aluworks and Fata Hunter, leading manufacturers of high quality equipment of the world in Italy have entered into a contract for the supply of a state of-the-art cold rolling mill as part of the company's expansion project at Tema.
The US$12.5m dollar equipment, said to be the latest Aluminium technology in the world is expected to produce about 35 thousand metric tonnes of aluminium products for both domestic and international markets.
With the new technology Aluworks is also expected to increase its annual turn-over which currently stands at about US$495b.
The Cold Rolling Mill which is the heart of the manufacturing plant reduces cast strip to modified gauges or thickness to suit customer specifications for corrugated roofing sheets, cook-ware and fabrication sheets.
The equipment will help develop and establish more local aluminium industries which use semi finished aluminium materials for their work and this will also generate job opportunities for the youth.
The Board Chairman of Aluworks, William Inkumasah said the signing of the agreement is a landmark achievement in the history of Aluworks and the country.
The Managing Director of Aluworks, Kondagunta Venkataramana who signed for Aluworks said the company will become the biggest Aluminium factory in West Africa after the installation of the equipment.
The Chief Executive Officer of Fata Hunter Dr. Anthony Tropean initialled for his company. The Italian Ambassador to Ghana Fabrizio De Agostini said the agreement is one of the dividends of President Kufuor"s visit to Italy.
He explained that the contract will further strengthen the cordial relationship between the two countries. The new equipment is expected to start production in 18 month’s time.
