The Federation of Ghana Catholic Health Trainees (FGCHT) has held a durbar with the chiefs and people of Dominase in the Amansie East District in Ashanti as part of its seventh annual congress.
Mr Reginald Sefah Nkansah, president of the Federation, said they would soon launch a public education on health problems and diseases, especially malaria, which was killing many people.
He said the theme for the congress, “Malaria, the silent killer; Mother and Child Beware,” was considered due to the alarming malaria death rate in the country.
Mr Nkansah stated that about 45 children under five years and seven pregnant women die from malaria daily and stressed that there was the need to educate the public about the dangers of the disease.
He said malaria was the most contributing factor to the death of many pregnant women during child birth.
He urged pregnant women to regularly visit ante-natal clinics to receive intermittent preventive treatment and other needed interventions.
