Eric Agbanu Demordzi, a commercial driver who drove carelessly and knocked down a 10-year-old girl on the Tema-Aflao road has been fined GH¢600 by the Tema Circuit Court ‘A’.
The court, presided over by Mr Charles Asiedu, convicted him on his own plea of guilty to two charges of careless driving and causing harm.
He will serve two years in jail in default.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Duuti Tuaruka, prosecuting, said Demordzi was driving a Toyota mini-bus with registration number GT 8545 N with passengers on board from Tema to Anloga in the Volta Region on November 03, 2007 at about 1430 hours.
The Prosecution stated that on reaching Klagon, Demordzi knocked down a 10-year-old girl who was crossing the road.
The accident was due to over speeding on the part of the driver who ought to have slowed down because he was driving at the centre of a town.
The court heard that the girl died while she was being rushed to a hospital at Ada.
