The New Patriotic Party General Secretary, Nana Ohene Ntow, says every party worth its salt ought to be concerned about the credibility of the Voters Register. He therefore has no qualms with the National Democratic Congress and its flag bearer raising concerns over them.
He however said that the NDC was ‘up to something’ looking at the manner they chose to air their concerns over their suspicions that the Voters’ Register in the Ashanti Region was bloated.
Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show, Nana Ohene Ntow said the New Patriotic Party wants a credible Voters Register ‘that will stand the test of time, that will give us credible elections. I am all for that but I am saying that looking at the way the NDC is going about this matter, I have my doubts. I think that they are up to something else.
Ohene Ntow, apart from finding it interesting, intriguing and quite curious that the NDC and its mouthpiece, the Palaver, has not said anything about the Voters’ Register in the Volta Region considered the ‘World Bank’ of the NDC, the party and its leaders have persistently been issuing threats in the event of the party losing the polls.
“I see a certain trend building up which is very dangerous for all of us and I think we ought to be very careful and even responsible as political parties all of who have stakes, and very high stakes in the elections that are upcoming. I think we ought to be very careful.
“How come the NDC has information and evidence, that even if there is a bloated voters’ register, they are for purposes of rigging elections for NPP? Why would you make such statements? They are quite irresponsible.”
He said if there are any problems in the electoral register, the best place to go is to check with the Electoral Commission, to sit soberly on the very important matter rather than creating discomfort and adding up to “a certain trend that is seeking to call the credibility of the Electoral Commission and even the elections that haven’t been held yet into question. I think that it is an attempt to create an environment to cause mischief. That is what worries me.”
Ohene Ntow said he had scheduled a meeting with the Chairman of the Electoral Commission to ascertain what was happening and would support any calls for a probe into the allegations but not to scandalize the EC or opponents unnecessarily.
