Some New Patriotic Party (NPP) activists in the Ejisu-Juaben Constituency are up in arms against the fourth-time bid of their Member of Parliament (MP), Mr. Akwasi Osei Adjei.
The concerned members say it would be suicidal for the NPP to present the incumbent as its candidate for this year's election, because the constituents had lost confidence in him.
That they attributed to his alleged failure to lobby for development projects for the constituency.
In a statement addressed to the party's delegates, the activists, who have constituted themselves into a group known as "Concerned Citizens of Ejisu," said the area’s road network remained poor.
The disgruntled supporters said the area also lacked portable water while unemployment was rife.
According to the statement, "many are those who have regretted voting for the MP for three consecutive times and that this is the time to show him the exit to tell him enough is enough."
The Vice-Chairman of the group, Nana Asamoah, speaking on Hello FM in Kumasi, to affirm their uncompromising stance, stated that the NPP risks losing the seat if the MP is imposed on the people, who feel neglected, ever since he was elected for the third time.
Nana Asamoa believed the MP was the cause of division among party executives in the constituency.
According to him, the Foreign Affairs Minister had done little to improve the lot of the constituents during his 12-year reign, as Ejisu-Juaben Constituency NPP MP, and therefore, should not be allowed
to pursue his fourth-time bid.
Mr. Justice Poku, Constituency Youth Organizer, however, disagreed with the assertions of the group.
He contended that all the allegations against the MP were lies, calculated to tarnish Mr. Adjei's image.
He asserted that the NPP activists were a sponsored group to champion the cause of the Ashanti Regional Director of Ghana Highways Authority, Mr. Kofi Owusu Aduomi, who was interest in contesting the seat.
Speaking through the same medium, Mr. Poku indicated that there was no way the constituency executives would allow anyone to unseat the MP, because they (the executives) considered him a performer and an achiever.
