The Eastern Regional Electoral Officer, Mr Paul Boateng, has called on political parties to clear any misunderstanding of any issue concerning the forthcoming presidential and parliamentary elections with officials of the Electoral Commission (EC) before going to the press. He explained that, such practices help clear any suspicion and misrepresentation of the electoral system of the country as well as prevent tension during elections and help promote democracy in the country. Mr Boateng made the call when the Eastern Regional Chairman of the NDC Mr Julius Debrah in the company of other regional executive members and some parliamentary candidates of the party paid a courtesy call on him at his office at Koforidua on Thursday. Mr Boateng assured the executives of the NDC that his office and that of the district offices of the Electoral Commission in the region is opened to members of all political parties for clarification and explanations of any issue related to the forth coming presidential and parliamentary elections in the country. Mr Debrah said the whole regional executive of the NDC decided to visit the office of the EC to interact with the officials and to know what role the party is expected to play to ensure a free and fair elections in the region. He said he was aware that there were some structures existing through, which the EC interact with the political parties, but felt such visits help promote familiarity and goodwill. The Regional Secretary of the party, Mr Anthony Gyampoh assured that the party would convey the goodwill message from the EC to the various structures of the party in the region for members of the party to co-operate with officials of the EC to enable them to fulfill their constitutional mandate to the people of Ghana.
