The Bawku Divisional Police Commander, Peter King has denied media reports that three persons died in Wednesday’s violent clashes between Kusasi and Mamprusi youth.
He said no such report had been made to the police adding that investigations had not supported the reports.
Speaking to Joy News’ Sammy Darko, the police commander said there was an uneasy calm in the area.
There were reports of exchange of gun shots in Bawku on Wednesday, February 13, 2008.
The Divisional Commander said one name had come up as having played a role in the shooting incident adding that the person was currently on the run.
Military and police personnel have been deployed to the area to restore calm.
Meanwhile, the Upper East Regional Security Council (REGSEC) will be meeting with opinion leaders from the two ethnic groups as part of efforts to find a lasting solution to the crisis.
Still on the Bawku violence, a group of Mamprusi youth have called on the government to institute a probe into the abduction of two Mamprusis in Bawku.
Speaking at a news conference in Tamale, the youth also accused the military personnel in Bawku of misconduct and urged the military command to intervene.
