The government has denied claims that there are tensions in Dagbon with a looming possibility of violence.
The Interior Minister, Kwamena Bartels however said the reports of stock piling of arms by the two factions in the Dagbon chieftaincy dispute had made the government axious and were taken seriously.
The Member of Parliament for Tamale North, Alhaji Abubakar Sumani said on Monday 11 Feb. 2008 there were text messages circulating among the Adanis that the government was planning to use the military to seize the Gbewa Palace from the regent to allow for the burial and funeral rites of Na Mahamadu by the Abudus.
But Mr Bartels speaking to Joy News, said the claims were outrageous and baseless.
He noted the withdrawal of military personnel from Yendi and replacing them with another contingent was a routine process.
According to him personnel stationed in the area were withdrawn after serving two months to enable them go back to their bases to spend time with their families.
He emphasized intelligence information was being gathered by the government but added there was no solid evidence to back the claims of tensions brewing in the area.
He stressed the government was waiting for a report by the eminent chiefs and would not take any action on the issue until that report was ready.
Following the chieftaincy crisis in the Dagbon Traditional Area, a team of eminent chiefs led by the Asanthene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II was constituted to help bring lasting peace to the area.
