More than 60 policemen are to be deplored in Suhum to combat the high crime wave in the area.
The District Commander of Police, Deputy Superintendent E. K. Amoako disclosed this at a meeting with watchmen/security personnel and their employers following the recent spate of murders at Suhum.
Mr Amoako, who was not happy with the way some of the watchmen were approaching their work said some of them got drunk before coming to work and therefore sleep in the night, which allowed criminals to attack and killed them.
He said investigations conducted indicated that some of the watchmen killed recently were asleep because of that they could not see the assailants.
Mr Amoako asked the employers of the watchmen to contact the police to provide them with the necessary education and the needed assistance to enable them to deal with the criminals without fear.
Some of the watchmen also blamed their employers for poor service conditions and they also refused the watchmen to go on their annual leave.
