Former Member of Parliament for Asante-Mampong constituency has finally picked nomination forms to file for the upcoming primaries of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).
After several failed attempts to pick the nomination forms over the past weeks, Mr Francis Addai-Nimo was able to secure the forms on Saturday.
Mr Nimo who lost the primaries to the current to Member of Parliament, Kwaku Ampratwum Sarpong, is staging a comeback to represent the party ahead of this year's elections.
But he is not alone as a 45-year-old civil engineer, Benjamin Arthur on the same day picked the nomination forms to contest the race.
Some delegates of the party had earlier held a press conference to demand that the party makes nomination forms available for their preferred candidates.
They indicated that they were reserving the right to take legal steps barring two of the party's hard-working members from contesting the upcoming parliamentary primaries.
They accused the incumbent MP Kwaku Ampratwum Sarpong of allegedly conniving with a section of the party’s top hierarchy to shield him from being contested.
The party’s youth also said they intended to inject better energy capabilities to gain a competitive edge to increase the support base ahead of the 2020 elections adding that the incumbent MP is not fit for that discourse.
Leader of the concerned delegates, Mr Solomon Nyantakyi commended the national and regional executives for their timely intervention but however raised some concerns.
"Our attention has been drawn to the album [constituency register] on issues concerning deletion and replacement of certain constituency delegates immediately after the current constituency executive were sworn in into their various offices."
Mr Nyantakyi says all polling stations that never had the chance of electing delegates to vote in the constituency executive election are still prevented from voting in the upcoming parliamentary and presidential primaries as directed by the national elections committee of the party.
He also says it is not part of the mandate of the constituency executives to replace names of delegates who have died into the party's voter’s register but maintain that, all other delegates who were allegedly suspended by the constituency executive unlawfully without any hearing must be allowed to vote in the upcoming primaries.
Leader of the concerns delegates also alleges that the names of some delegates who voted against current constituency executives have deleted from the register.
He cites communities like "Kontonho" in Kofiase as an example and wants the executive to act now.
"We want our party hierarchy to listen to some of us who want to make things in the party go the right way in order to help move and stay in power for long periods of time."
