The National Leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) said on Friday it was opposed to campaigning with sitting MPs in the constituencies in anticipation of parliamentary primaries.
A statement signed by Nana Ohene Ntow, the Party’s General Secretary said some people “are undertaking brazen and open campaigns in anticipation of parliamentary primaries in constituencies with sitting members of parliament.”
It said the “practice is seriously undermining the confidence and concentration of sitting MPS, thus compromising their focus as far as their parliamentary duties are concerned.”
The statement reminded all party members and interested persons that it was an offence to engage in active, open campaigning in constituencies with sitting MPS prior to the opening of nominations in such constituencies.
“Offenders may be prohibited from participating in the primaries should they be found culpable,” it said.
