Shadrack Ankomah, 20, student of the Uniworld Computer Institute at Akim Oda, who attempted to defile a basic school pupil, was on Friday jailed seven years by a circuit court at Akim Swedru.
Ankomah, alias Kwasi Polish, pleaded guilty to attempting to defile a pupil of the Presbyterian Junior High School at Breman Brakwa and he was convicted and sentenced accordingly.
Police Chief Inspector Adelaide Appiakorang told the court presided over by Mr Edward Bosompem Apenkwa that during the 2006 Christmas festivities, the convict visited his grandmother at Sabreso near Akim Oda to spend the holidays.
Chief Inspector Appiakorang said on January 11, this year at about 1500 hours, the convict met the victim on her way to fetch water at Sabreso.
Ankomah approached the girl and after a brief conversation with her, Ankomah struggled to remove her underwear in an attempt to forcibly defile her.
The Prosecutor said the girl shouted for help and a witness in the case arrived on the scene, but Ankomah took to his heels.
Neighbours managed to arrest Ankomah and handed him over to the police, the prosecution added.
