Delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Bunkpurugu constituency of the North East region have unanimously declared support for the incumbent Member of Parliament, Solomon Namlit Boar, to run for the third time on the party's ticket.
Mr Boar, who doubles as the Regional Minister, officially filed and submitted his nomination papers on Saturday at the constituency capital, amidst massive crowd of party supporters from distant villages.
After receiving and certifying the forms, the executives led the candidate to a rally ground held at the market square, where they mounted the platform, endorsed Mr Boar endorsement and urged other party supporters to campaign and vote for the incumbent MP.
Speaking on the behalf of polling station executives, the electoral area coordinator for Binde, Chempong Iddrisu said, the decision to declare love, commitment, and support for the Regional Minister is based on observation and evaluation of the perspectives and agendas of the various candidates in the upcoming elections.
According to him, the MP has been tried, tested and proven to be the best bet for the constituency and it is for this reason that they are declaring and endorsing "him as their parliamentary candidate for election 2020".
He described Mr Boar as someone who has acquired a great deal of experience of dealing with local politics and also earned respect from the public as well as lawmakers and Government officials at large.
“Honesty, pragmatism and selfless dedication to duty and humility, and hopeful insights into our constituency's problems and needs coupled with your willingness to examine the issues and listen closely to the general public concerns of Solomon Boar, sets him far apart from other candidates' expected techniques and talk," Mr Chempong stated.
The constituency secretary who represented the executives, Paul Louknaan also said Mr Boar has worked effectively in parliamentary affairs for the past seven years and brings excellent credentials to the position.
In response, the MP thanked the delegates and said it was another opportunity for members of the party to rally behind him to maintain the seat for the NPP.
He promised more jobs for the youth and urged residents of the newly created region to trust President Akuffo Addo and his administration to bring rapid development to the area.
"I can assure every tom, dick and harry, that Nana means well for this country,” he said.
Reacting to the open endorsement, other aspirants indicated that the actions of the constituency executives go contrary to the party's regulations that bar election committee members from declaring support for or promoting candidates and have called on the party's regional executives to act.
An aspirant, Dr Francis Tingoti told JoyNews he expects the party executives at the regional level to bring down sanctions on the constituency chairman and his team.
Mr. Tingoti, who is a Finance officer at the Bagabaga College of Education in Tamale, described Saturday's episode as "populism" and mind games" which will attract no attention from him.
