Ghanaians have taken to social media to demand the police work faster to arrest the murderers of Ruth Arhin, a community nurse who was found dead in Sewua in the Ashanti region.
The deceased, a 37-year-old mother of three failed to return home after close of work on Monday, February 3. She was later found dead a few metres from her house on Tuesday, February 4.
Speaking with the media after the body of Ruth was discovered, an eyewitness said “her lifeless body was discovered close to where she stays. You could also see marks of assault on parts of her body suggesting that the deceased may have struggled with her assailants.”
But this narrative has been disputed by a relative who insists when the deceased was found, there were no signs of struggle.
“There was no mark, there was nothing like a knife, nothing of that sort was found. She was just lying here,” he said.
What he did note was that her underwear had been pulled down, suggesting she had been raped before being killed.
Her colleagues, including the Community Health Nurse Association, after the news of her death, took to social media with the hashtag Justice4RuthEshun (using her maiden name) to condemn the act meted out to the public servant while demanding the perpetrators be brought to face the law.
Many Ghanaians have also expressed displeasure in the slow process of police investigations.
“Raped and Murdered??? 😨😨. And this matter is already dead before it even began. Dear Media houses, We need your voice on this issue. Ghana Police we need your help finding culprits,” one twitter user wrote.

What did she do to deserve this? To rape and kill a mother of 3 whose duty is to serve her people and save life is more than wickedness. #Justice4RuthEshun pic.twitter.com/O7u2CNgvH9

#Justice4RuthEshun So tragic. The culprit (s) must be arrested and dealt with drastically. Violent crimes like this are increasing in Ghana. They used to be very rare.

A noble profession where nurses give their all to save humanity and now have to be scared because some scrupulous wicked cowards raped and murdered their colleague who is such a wonderful soul trying to help a community. Rest well Ruth. Ghana police wake up! #Justice4RuthEshun
