The Kubekro number two community watchdog committee in Ashiama, has arrested two persons for allegedly stealing livestock at Apollonia near the town.
Ernest Asare, a 32-year-old taxi driver and Hammed Mangah, a 19-year-old former student of Sogakope Senior High and another suspect who managed to escape, were spotted in a bush at Kubekro number two loading seven sheep into a Taxi with registration number GT 1922 V on Wednesday at about 0400 hours.
Mr Evans Adjei, a member of the committee told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at the Ashaiman police station that the suspects confessed stealing the animals from Apollonia to be sold at Tulaku a suburb of Ashaiman.
He said they sent the two suspects to the Ashaiman police with the help of Nii Laryea Afotey Agbo, Member of Parliament for Kpone-Katamanso.
Mr Adjei explained the stealing of live stock in and around Kubekro had become so rampant that the youth mobilized themselves to patrol the area to apprehend culprits.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Frank Awu, Ashaiman District Police Commander, who confirmed the arrest, said Mangah has been on the police wanted list for stealing cows.
DSP Awu said the taxi driver told the police that the thieves hired him at Apollonia to convey them and their booty to Tulaku of which he charged GH¢ 15.
The District Police Commander commended their effort and called on the public to volunteer information on criminal activities.
