The MP for Tema West has urged the Tema West Municipal Assembly to exercise restraint in planned demolitions of structures owned by squatters in the area.
According to Carlos Ahenkorah, 2020 is an election year so the Assembly has to find a proper and civilized way to solve the problem.
“I am begging them, the breaking-breaking won’t solve the problem because when you break [their structures] they have to go and find a place to sleep, man has to sleep,” the MP told JoyNews.
He added the land in question is not even a government land. “It is a private person who is pushing them to do the demolition without any court order, he argued.
Mr. Ahenkorah who is also the Deputy Trades and Industry Minister is accused of interfering with the work of the Assembly after he reportedly stopped the pulling down of some structures by standing in the way of an earth moving machine carrying out the exercise in his constituency.
