The Confederation of African football (Caf) says that there are no immediate plans to change the timing of the Africa Cup of Nations.
Many European clubs and Europe-based African players have complained about the timing of the tournament.
But Caf general secretary, Mustafa Fahmy, says things will stay as they are.
"It is impossible to move the competition to June because it is the rainy season in most African countries and it will also be too hot," he said.
"We know our continent better; can Europe organize the European Championship in Russia in January?"
Fahmy also said that despite suggestions from some European officials, Caf will not reduce the frequency of the tournament.
"I can confirm that the Nations Cup will continue to be held every two years at least till 2014," he said.
"We already have commitments that we need to fulfil and marketing contracts that we must respect.
"I am surprised that they say we are the only confederation that organizes their Nations Cup every two years"
"The fact is, Europe and Asia are exceptions, other confederations like Oceania and North and Central America apply the same duration system we have in our competition."
