Avnash Industries Ghana Limited has been recognized as the best corporate governance compliant in the agricultural business (agro-based) category at the 2019 IOD-Ghana Corporate Governance Excellence Awards for public and private sector actors in the country.
The Institute of Directors Ghana honoured the local agribusiness processing company for exhibiting a clear understanding of the respective roles of its board, management and shareholders; their relationships with each other; and their relationships with other corporate stakeholders – a structure that does not cast doubt on the company’s reliability, integrity or its obligations.
The famous local rice processing company has pledged that the sector would aim to raise the bar even higher to ensure that the best practices in corporate governance are applied and adhered to.
Avnash is a Ghanaian company with its main interest in agribusiness processing comprising Edible Oil Refining, Soap & Personal Care Manufacturing, and Rice Milling is one of the largest investments in West Africa offering premium products ranging from cooking oil, laundry and bathing soaps and rice.
The award ceremony was part of a three-day international conference on corporate governance which was themed: Optimizing the Growth of SMEs while Globalizing Big Corporates: The Role of Good Corporate Governance.
Professor Mervyn King, the Ambassador of African Corporate Governance Network delivering the keynote address warned that companies that do not follow good corporate governance always struggle to secure funding from the capital market. Prof. Mervyn King is noted for the King IV Report on Corporate Governance.
In addition to the awards event, there was a conference and masterclass on corporate governance. The event was partnered by the International Finance Corporation (IFC).
