The Central Regional HIV/AIDS Monitoring and Evaluation Focal Person, Mr Ishmael Nana Ogyefo, has called on Ghanaians to use the Africa Cup of Nations soccer tournament to promote the Ghanaian hospitality, but not promiscuity.
Ogyefo, who was addressing a group of traders at Mankessim, cautioned women in particular to be careful in their dealings with visitors during the tournament.
"Do not think about money and lose control of yourself," he said, adding that the tournament would come and so there was need for everyone to remain healthy.
Mr Ogyefo said although the Ghana AIDS Commission, in collaboration with other social partners, would provide free condoms at hotels, “that should not entice our women to flock the hotels looking for customers”.
The Central regional secretariat of the Ghana AIDS Commission has been organizing activities to sensitize the people on how to comport themselves during the tournament.
One such activity was a football match between Cape Coast Dwarfs and Cape Coast Vipers. There were also film shows and voluntary counselling and testing (VCT) at market and other public places.
Mr Ogyefo appealed to Ghanaians to do voluntary testing, saying it would help to promote behavioural change.
