All is set for the commencement of the Peoples Assembly being held in Sekondi today, and will be addressed by President J.A. Kufuor.
According to Joy News correspondent, Evans Mensah, the programme would not start on schedule (9am) as people are now making their way to the venue.
President Kufuor and his ministers will answer questions from the gathering.
The President will also inspect a Guard of Honour to be mounted by the Second Battalion of Infantry (2BN) and then open a photo exhibition on development projects to be mounted by the Information Services Department.
The People's Assembly concept was introduced by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration on assumption of office in 2001 as a forum to enable the President and his government to interact with people from all walks of life on a 'one-on-one' basis.
This is the third time the assembly is being held outside Accra. Cape Coast in the Central Region and Sunyani in the Brong Ahafo Region are the other places that have hosted it outside the Greater Accra Region.
According to the Daily Graphic, after the National People's Assembly, Regional and District People's Assemblies will be held.
Ministers, Members of Parliament and other high-ranking government officials will move out to the regions and districts to interact with the people during those assemblies.
