Commodities exporting firm Golden Exotics has shut down its banana plantation operations at Kasunya near Asutsare in the Eastern region.
This was after agitations by some local Industrial and Commercial Union (ICU) got out of hand leading to some managers being attacked and properties being destroyed.
According management, they have asked all the workers to go home and re-apply adding they would be able to engage workers who are prepared to under the standard labour regulators.

Background
According to officials of the Golden Exotics, On Wednesday some local Industrial and Commercial Union ICU invaded the farm and subjected managers and supervisors who were trapped to trauma. Management of Golden Exotic and Golden Organic have for the past month been holding discussions with regards to request by the union for a review in bonus. This was based on request by the Union to calculate the bonuses using boxes produced, instead of total tonnage produced. Management maintained that after successful conversion from tonnages to boxes the union further requested to increase the amount. At their last meeting on December 10 , management agreed to increase their bonus by 30 percent, however Union decided only to accept a 250 percent jump in bonus. After failing to accept these proposals , the workers then decided to embark some demonstrations that which ended up destroying some properties and injuring some officials of the company. We are understand that, three persons of companies were hurt as a result of this , one motto bike was destroyed , seven vehicles damaged .
Management on the action
Speaking to JOYBUSINESS report corporate affairs and administration manager, George Kporye said that management is ready and willing to offer opportunity to all persons that are willing to work and abide by the country’s rules and regulations. He added that “ we assure all of adequate protection will be given with support all workers and authorities for them to work in a peaceful industrial atmosphere.
