The Cape Coast Technical University is to set up a renewable energy centre to augment the delivery of the renewable energy needs of the country.
Vice Chancellor of the University, Rev. Ing. Prof. Joshua Danso Owusu-Sekyere, at the matriculation ceremony of the university said the renewable energy centre is expected to position the university as a bastion of renewable energy in Ghana and beyond.
Rev. Ing. Prof. Joshua Danso Owusu-Sekyere expects students of the university to be fully immersed with the focus of the university and automatically become giants in renewable energy that the world would fall on to solve its renewable energy needs.
Speaking at this year’s matriculation ceremony, the Vice Chancellor told the students the university has a niche area: renewable energy and thus is expected to be a Center of Excellence in renewable energy in Ghana.
“You will, therefore, in your stay on this campus, be hearing a lot about renewable energy, and also be expected to relate most of what you do in renewable energy,” he said.
On the various developments on the university campus, the Vice Chancellor hinted that the management of the university was seeking to engage private developers to complete the commercial area project in the university. He explained all strings are being pulled to ensure that the work continues on the auditorium project.
‘’We are seeking to ensure that all uncompleted projects are revived and that’s why we are insisting the SRC does not initiate new projects but complete the ones it has started,” the Vice Chancellor said.
The Cape Coast Technical University received a total of 1419 applicants but the university was able to admit a total of 1398 students. Out of that number admitted, 683 are tertiary students while 286 are non-tertiary students. In addition, 111 are pursuing a bachelor of technology degree programs.
