The food vending business sector in Aflao is expected to have a major boost with an expected 200,000 football fans from Togo, Benin, Nigeria and Cameroon crossing over into the country for the Ghana 2008 Africa Cup of Nations Tournament.
The Ghana Tourist Board (GTB) and the Cook Art Ghana have therefore held a training workshop for over 100 food vendors, caterers and allied business operators in Aflao to sensitize them on how to deliver quality service.
The participants were schooled on personal hygiene, food production, facility management and customer care to ensure food safety and make lasting and positive impressions on the visitors.
Miss Joyce Gawu, a Senior Resource Officer with the GTB in Ho, said the Board takes particular interest in the food sector of the tourism business because of its ability to make or unmake efforts to improve the sector.
She told the participants that their role is very crucial to the successful hosting of the tournament and that the visitors would expect nothing short of the best from them.
"Let our visitors be satisfied with our services and return later after the tournament to our advantage and the country's tourism industry", she said.
That, she said would require that they maintained the highest hygienic standards by selecting quality food items and not seek to maximize profits at the expense of their customers' health.
Miss Edem Tenu, a trainer with the Cook Art Ghana asked the participants to keep the prices of their services reasonably moderate for the benefit of the visitors.
