Prof. Atta Mills visits Korle Bu patients

Professor John Evans Atta Mills, National Democratic Congress (NDC) Presidential Candidate, on Monday visited the Korle Bu Teaching hospital with his “I Care For You Message.” Accompanied by his wife, Naadu Mills, the NDC Flagbearer spent a greater part of the day at the Children’s Block of Ghana’s biggest hospital. Professor Mills and his wife distributed toys to the children who are on admission and were unfortunate to spend Christmas and New Year at the hospital. Apart from the toys, Prof Mills and Naadu Mills, presented items worth over GH¢3000 to the Children’s Block. The items included, bags of rice, sugar, cartons of Tampico, boxes of detergent and toiletries. Professor Jennifer Welbeck, who is in-charge of the Children’s Block, received the items on behalf of the Block and thanked the NDC Leader and his wife for their kind gesture. Before spending time with the children, Prof. Mills and his entourage called on the hospital authorities. Mr. Christopher Nortey, Acting Administrator in-charge of the hospital, thanked the NDC Leader and his wife for having the welfare of Korle Bu on their mind. “We are grateful that you have chosen to be friends of Korle Bu and we are honoured to have you around today to share what you have with the children who are on admission,” he said. The NDC Leader thanked the Hospital Administration for making it possible for him to share time with them. “I would have loved to be coming here more regularly except that these days, when people sight Atta Mills around any hospital, the next thing you will hear is that Atta Mills is nearing his grave,” the NDC Leader said. “However, I have come here today with my wife to give a few things to the children who are unfortunate to have spent Christmas and New Year here and to let them know that as future leaders of this country, some of us care about their welfare,” he added. “The NDC government refurbished all the theatres in the surgical block of Korle Bu, including providing the laparoscopic equipment. We also built the cardiothoracic unit, built the plastic and burns unit, built the radiotherapy unit, worked on the physiotherapy unit and I can assure you that an Atta Mills government will surely continue where it left off, and continue make Korle Bu the flagship medical centre, especially because of the major role it plays in healthcare delivery in our country”, he said. Prof. Mills also assured the hospital administration that the remuneration of health workers will be high on the agenda of his government. “I will not be in charge of a government that will go to the negotiation table and promise A only to turn around and do B. My word will be my word, and health workers will get what they deserve.” Among those present to receive Prof. Mills and his entourage, was Professor Ofosu Armah, Chairman of the Hospital Board. Apart from Mrs. Naadu Mills, Prof Mills was accompanied by Mr. Fred Ohene Kena, Mrs. Ama Benyiwa Doe, Nii Tackie Commey, MP, Odododiodoo, Mr. Samuel Nuamah Donkor, one-time Health Minister in the NDC government, Mr. Victor Smith, and Mr. Fritz Baffour, NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Ablekuma South Constituency.
