The Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta says government will provide all the support the Electoral Commission needs to conduct successful elections in 2020.
He said government is bent on seeing free, fair and transparent elections and is prepared to make available any resource the Commission needs to see this through.
Presenting the 2020 Budget in Parliament Wednesday, Mr Ofori-Atta said “I would like to take this opportunity to inform this august House on behalf of the President that all the needed resources required shall be marshalled for the Electoral Commission to ensure that we have credible, free and fair elections.”
The Minister said the Akufo-Addo administration is bent on maintaining Ghana’s position as one of the stable and peaceful countries in the world and the only way to do that is to ensure credible elections.
Spending in Election year
Mr Ofori-Atta said although 2020 will be an election year, the President and his administration will ensure that the perennial excessive spending during such periods, will not happen in 2020.
He indicated that government is committed to working within the appropriated resource envelop and adhere to the Fiscal Responsibility Act to maintain fiscal discipline.
“We will do so, not because we are complacent of our chances. No. We will do so because the nation needs it and we are not prepared to throw away all the sacrifices and gains the people and their Government have made in the last three years.
“We shall consolidate our macroeconomic gains and offer businesses and households the predictability and stability that they need to manage their lives,” he added.
