Children and teachers of Nhyiaeso D/A Basic School in Ashanti Region are relieved as MTN Foundation has sponsored a new classroom block and staff accommodation for them.

The intervention, worth over ¢500, 000 follows a Joy News report which highlighted the poor state of the school’s old, dilapidated and collapsing structure which exposed users to danger.

Completion of the six-unit classroom block, staff common room and a library for the school Asante-Akyem North District also provides respite for parents and education authorities.

Poor impact of teaching and learning in a life-threatening environment, teachers trekking long distances to school daily from Agogo have been the lot of users.

Junior High School students who walk to school at nearby Ananekrom are also exposed to danger.

There are reports of females among them falling victim to sexual abuse in the hands of criminals, some of them alleged to be nomadic herdsmen.

After initial challenges with harsh weather, contractors are almost done with 95 per cent of the work in less than six months.

Project Manager at Wilfrim Enterprise, Benjamin Atta Frimpong said very soon they will be done.

Terrazzo floors, doors, windows fitted with louvre blades, electrical fittings and ceiling have been completed.

On his part, Francis Oti Boateng, the District Chief Executive for Asante-Akyem North extended his deepest appreciation to MTN for coming in to assist the assembly.

He called on other organisations to emulate MTN’s good gesture.

Mr Oti Boateng praised for the Multimedia Group for turning what he describes as a negative story into a positive one.

“In fact, I extend most of the appreciation to you Ohemeng Tawiah who came here to report this. In fact, when I saw the story on television, my heart was beating fast.

“It's like washing your dirty linen in public, not knowing there was a fortune in washing your dirty linen in public. In fact, you have done a marvellous job. Looking at the standards and the professionalism here, you cannot see this any of the cities even in Accra, I think most of the schools cannot be compared to this," he said.

Human Resource Manager at the District Education Directorate, Akwasi Kwarteng Amaning, is equally overwhelmed.

He said the facilities will help promote quality teaching and learning in the area.
