The recklessness of a Man-diesel truck driver resulted in a fatal road accident claiming two lives at a spot at Breku near Asankare in the Asante Akim South District on Friday.
An eye-witness told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the truck, with registration number AS3470Q had been parked by the side of the road for three days with its trailer virtually covering half of the main road.
The looming danger, however, manifested on Friday when a fuel tanker and an articulated truck loaded with cement ran into each other killing the truck driver and his mate instantly.
The tanker driver and his mate, however, escaped unhurt.
The bodies of the deceased, Aminu Kwabena, 33 and one Dauda 27, have been deposited at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) mortuary for autopsy.
Briefing the Ghana News Agency, Chief Inspector Kippo Iddrisu Mahama of the Juaso police confirmed the accident and said that it took a combined team of firemen from Ejisu, Konongo and Nkawkaw over seven hours to cut open the wreckage before removing the deceased.
He said the fuel tanker with registration number AS 2958T had earlier ran into the parked truck and caught fire.
Moments after the fire had been extinguished, the truck with registration number AS 6448R also ran into the tanker and fell into a nearby ditch, trapping the driver and his mate.
Meanwhile the driver of the parked truck absconded after the accident and the police was making frantic efforts to arrest him.
