A 32-year-old chainsaw operator and hunter, known only as Red, a native of Krobo in the Eastern Region, in the early hours of Sunday shot dead his wife and later committed suicide at Kenyasi in the Asutifi District of the Brong Ahafo Region.
The 29-year-old lady whose name was given as Abena Saamaa was said to have been living with Red for about six years though they were not legally married.
The result of that relationship is a six-year-old boy whom Abena escorted to a public toilet where she met her untimely death.
Narrating the incident to DAILY GUIDE, a source close to the lady said Abena left her lover's home at Bogyampa for her mother's end at Kenyasi on 27th December 2007 for the Christmas festivities, and had failed to come back to Red.
Red, assuming that Abena was planning a break-up, followed her to Kenyasi Sunday morning and Iaid in wait for her.
At about 6:15am when Abena was returning from the public toilet with their son, Red, without any provocation, shot her, killing her instantly.
Their son, who was an eyewitness to the gory incident, ran to report the happening to his grandmother, but when people came around, Red had absconded.
A few minutes later, news got to them that the killer had also shot himself dead at a nearby village, Tutuka, about 3 miles away from Kenyasi.
According to the source, the cause of Red's action could not be immediately determined, however, there are speculations that the lovebirds had protracted quarrels about the issue of legalizing their marriage.
The two bodies had been conveyed to the St. Theresa's Hospital at Hwediem, awaiting autopsy while the police are investigating the matter.
