The Ghana India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT has begun a training programme intended to train personnel from the Nation Builders Corp (NABCo) throughout the country.
The initiative intended to enhance the IT skills of the personnel is also focused on exposing them to an online training programme known as iLearn.
As a first step, 1,077 personnel made up of coordinators and Research and Training Corp (RTC’s) were taken through a training of trainers (ToT) programme at the Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT.
The 3-day training was to equip the coordinators with skills and capabilities on how to access and use a scholarship on platforms under the "iLearn" programme as well as how to train graduates assigned to them under the NABCo structure to be able to access the online learning platform.
iLearn is an online learning platform designed and sponsored by the Indian Government to make access to some top Indian tertiary institutions available to students and professionals in Africa.
Cost of access to online learning programmes except examination fees is fully funded by the Indian Government.
The platform hosts over 500 courses in different disciplines including telemedicine and tele-education.
At the opening of the training programme in Accra, Kwasi Adu Gyan, the Director General of AITI-KACE explained that Ghana through the High Commissioner in India has signed an MoU with India with regard to the iLearn initiative.
The MoU signed at a ceremony in August this year in India was witnessed by Kwasi Adu Gyan.
Running on the backs of the MoU signed in India, the Ghana India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT, the implementing agency in Ghana, has signed an MoU with NABCo.
This is to make the training programmes available to all NABCo personnel who are desirous in acquiring and adding value to their current skills and qualifications.
It is hands-on practical training aimed at bridging the gap between academia and industry, he added.
Mr Adu Gyan said universities in Ghana can take advantage of the iLearn platform to expose their students to the numerous training offerings the initiative provides. He said efforts are underway to hook two universities and two hospitals unto the platform for telemedicine and tele-education.
“In the coming weeks, our centres in Accra, Sunyani and Bolgatanga will be buzzing with activities when personnel of NABCo enrol and begin their training in addition to the normal activities of the Ghana India Kofi Annan Center of Excellence in ICT.
“We are excited about the opportunity provided by the Indian government. So far, the support from the team in India has been commendable and we look forward to making the collaboration mutually beneficial to us here in Ghana and our partners in India”, Mr Adu Gyan said.
