Gov’t finalises plans to establish new SHS at Awaso

Government has finalised plans to establish a new Senior High School at Awaso in the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipality of the Western North Region.

In addition, the government is supplying 2000 mono and dual desks to basic and second cycle institutions across the municipality.

That’s according to the Western North Regional Minister, Kingsley Aboagye Gyedu. The minister indicated the government had its eyes in the region and will not rest until their share of the development is given them.

He was speaking at the meet-the-press encounter at Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai in the Wester North Region.

“Education is of prime concern to the NPP administration and as our focus has been, we will put in place the necessary infrastructure to put smiles on the faces of all Ghanaians and that’s why we are embarking on aggressive educational support throughout this municipality,” he revealed.

The Regional Minister intimated that as part of government’s development plans for the municipality, there was going to be a water project and CHPS compound built at Debiso, Surano, Aboabo, Ampemkrom and an extension of electricity supply in Nambro and Awaso communities.

“Government is also upgrading and re-engineering the town roads at Merewa-Nkronua road, Pataboso-Chirano,” he explained.

The Municipal Chief Executive for the area, Alfred Amoah, says the assembly has created many jobs and opportunities in the area of education, Agric and the vocational and technical sectors.

The construction of a 6-unit lecture hall, administration block, laboratory and other ancillary facilities at the Anhwiaso Campus College of Health, he avers is progressing steadily.

“In 2018, under the business advisory sector, participants were trained and jobs created in baking and confectionery, beads making, soap making, fashion and designing and vegetable farming,” he stressed.

The MCE further explained that the beneficiary schools under the School Feeding Program had increased from 65 schools in 2017 to 76 schools in 2018 representing 8.36% increase. The number of pupils benefitting from the programme had also increased from 20,777 in 2017 to 21,786 (Males 1, 1194 and females 10592) in 2018.

The meet-the-press platform was created for the dissemination of information on the performance of the Assembly to the citizenry; to engage the citizenry to receive feedback on government programmes/projects at the District level and most importantly to inform stakeholders on the outlook for 2020.
