Local Black Stars coach, Maxwell Konadu says he is disappointed with his team’s failure to win the African Nations Championship following last night’s defeat to Libya in the final.
The Black Stars were defeated 4-3 on penalties in Cape Town to give Libya their first ever senior African title.
The game had finished with a goalless draw after 90 minutes before Joshua Tijani missed the crucial spot-kick to hand victory to Libya.
Speaking to Joysports’ Benedict Owusu after the match, Maxwell Konadu said their hope was to bring the cup to Ghana to restore past glory.
“We are disappointed for not winning the cup because everybody back home was looking forward to this cup and we wanted to seize this opportunity to send this cup home to restore pass glory” he stated.
Maxwell Konadu said he also missed a juicy opportunity to further enrich his curriculum vitae as a coach.
This not withstanding, the coach was confident majority of his players especially goalkeeper Stephen Adams will make it to the senior national team ahead of the world cup in Brazil.
“I’m very proud of the boys because they played their hearts” Konadu added.
Meanwhile, headline sponsors of the Black Stars, The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) has commended the team for what it says was a good fight.
Acting Head of Corporate affairs, Eric Pwadura urged Ghanaians, to put the defeat behind them and focus on the lessons learnt for improved performance in the future.
