The Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the 26th MTN Africa Cup of Nations, Ghana 2008 has warned electronic wares distributors, Ackatronics on the mention of “Ghana 2008 CAN” in a recent advertisement.
The said advert which was put on the page 23 of the December 04, 2007 edition of the Daily Graphic offers free tickets to persons who patronize any of their products.
Magnus Rex Danquah, Chief Operating Officer of the LOC in a statement copied to GNA Sports said the advertisement amounts to ambush marketing and must cease forthwith.
“It is an outright disregard of the regulations that safeguard the interests of the organisers and partners of the tournament.”
Mr Rex Danquah has therefore advised Akatronics to withdraw within seven calendar days all advertisements and other unofficial linkages made to Ghana 2008 ACN, which has the intent of ambushing the marketing rights of the tournament.
The LOC has also demanded an unqualified public apology from the electronic ware dealers for the contravention of what it termed a fundamental principle of marketing or face the full rigours of the law.
The statement warned that the LOC will deal with companies, institutions and organisations who want to profit from the January 20 – February 10, championships from the back door.
